  If you've ever bought fresh coffee, you've probably noticed a small round valve on the bag. It's not there by accident. That little piece of plastic plays a big role in keeping coffee fresh.

  Freshly roasted coffee beans release carbon dioxide gas. This happens naturally for days or even weeks after roasting. If you seal coffee in a bag without a way for this gas to escape, the bag will puff up like a balloon. In the worst cases, bags can burst open on store shelves.

  Our eight-side seal coffee pouches come with a one-way degassing valve. It lets CO2 escape while keeping air out. This is important because oxygen is coffee's enemy. When oxygen gets in, it makes coffee go stale much faster. The oils in coffee beans start to break down, and that fresh roasted flavor disappears.

  The valve is simple but smart. It has a thin silicone membrane inside. When pressure builds up in the bag, the membrane lifts just enough to let gas out. Once the pressure drops, it seals shut tight. No oxygen gets back in.

  This means coffee roasters can package their beans right after roasting. They don't need to wait days for degassing to finish before putting coffee in bags. That saves time and warehouse space. It also means consumers get coffee that's closer to its roast date.

  For coffee drinkers, the valve is a sign of quality. It tells them the roaster cares about freshness. That's why many specialty coffee brands make sure the valve is clearly visible on the front of their bags.
