Oxygen Is the Enemy – How Aluminum Foil Creates an Absolute Barrier

For countless products, from gourmet coffee to sensitive pharmaceuticals, oxygen is the primary cause of degradation. It oxidizes fats, leading to rancidity and off-flavors. It promotes microbial growth. It degrades vitamins and active ingredients. The most effective weapon against oxygen is aluminum foil.

Our PET/AL/PE structure incorporates a solid aluminum foil layer that provides what the industry calls an "absolute barrier." Unlike metalized films that significantly reduce oxygen transmission but do not eliminate it, aluminum foil reduces Oxygen Transmission Rates (OTR) to effectively zero.

How is this possible? Aluminum is a crystalline metal. Its molecular structure is so dense that oxygen molecules – which are relatively large – simply cannot pass through a continuous sheet of foil. This is a fundamental physical property, not just a performance claim.

For coffee roasters, this means beans retain their complex aroma oils indefinitely when the pouch remains sealed. For pharmaceutical companies, it means the efficacy of oxygen-sensitive drugs is guaranteed. For food brands, it means shelf life measured in years, not months.

When your product cannot afford any compromise on freshness, a PET/AL/PE stand-up pouch is not just an option. It is a necessity.
