Against the backdrop of the continued development of the global packaging industry, kraft paper bags have become the preferred packaging solution for many industries due to their environmental friendliness, durability and aesthetics. However, the choice of material directly affects its performance and applicable scenarios, and companies need to accurately match material properties according to actual needs.
Balance between virgin pulp and recycled pulp
The basic raw materials for kraft paper bags are usually divided into two categories: virgin wood pulp and recycled paper pulp. Paper bags made from virgin pulp have higher strength and uniform color, making them suitable for high-end goods or food packaging; while recycled pulp is known for its environmental advantages, can reduce resource consumption, and is widely used in industrial products or daily necessities. Some companies adjust cost and performance through mixing ratios, such as 70% virgin pulp with 30% recycled pulp, which reduces environmental footprint while ensuring strength.
Gram weight determines load-bearing capacity
Gram weight (weight of paper per square meter) is the core indicator for measuring the load-bearing performance of paper bags. Lightweight kraft paper bags (such as 80-120g/m²) are mostly used for clothing and small commodity packaging, while heavy-duty paper bags (above 160g/m²) are suitable for bulk cargo transportation such as cement and feed. Foreign trade companies need to choose based on product weight and stacking requirements. For example, exported ore samples may require thickened materials of more than 200g/m² to ensure the tear resistance of the corners.
Functional extension of coating technology
Surface coating technology has significantly expanded the application scenarios of kraft paper bags. Waterproof coatings can meet the transportation needs in humid environments and are commonly used in agricultural products or chemical raw material packaging; oil-proof coatings meet the food industry's requirements for grease barrier. It is worth noting that some markets have restrictions on plastic coatings. Companies need to confirm the environmental regulations of the target area in advance and give priority to water-based varnish or bio-based coating solutions.
Printability and brand presentation
Highly smooth paper can improve ink adhesion and ensure the clarity of color patterns. For brand packaging that requires multi-color printing or hot stamping, it is recommended to choose high-quality kraft paper with higher surface strength to avoid discoloration or wrinkling caused by multiple overprinting. In addition, UV curing printing technology can further enhance color durability and adapt to lighting conditions during sea transportation or storage.
The scientific selection of materials is directly related to packaging costs and user experience. Foreign trade practitioners should comprehensively evaluate the transportation environment, product characteristics and regulatory requirements, and achieve a win-win situation of functionality and economy through precise matching.
